Earth Hour in Chicago

Earth Hour – comparison

Tonight from 8-9pm Chicago turned it’s lights out for Earth Hour 2008. People around the world were asked to turn off lights and non-essential electrical items as a way of conserving energy.

These photos were taken by a flickr member and I loved that they show the comparison of 10 minutes before the lights went out and then after. I think it’s neat to see the lights off in the Sears Tower. Check out the difference in the sky. I’m actually a little surprised the sky is blue. We live a block from Chicago city limits and the night sky is typically orange-ish due to the downtown lights. In fact, on our last trip to Texas, Francis freaked out at the first sighting of stars! it blew her mind! Pretty sad.

We had our lights off, did you?

Yesterday Francis turned to me and said, “Mom, I’m really growing up aren’t I?” I smiled and snuggled her in close to me and said, “Yes, Francis you are growing up.” As I hugged her and was thinking how much I loved her, she spoke up again and said, “Mom, when I grow up, I’m gonna have a big booty just like you!” Unable to deny the facts, I just said, “Yes Francis, if you’re lucky, you’ll have a big booty just like mom.” That’s my girl… just tellin’ like she sees it. Back to Weightwatchers I go!

Fulmer Fam - Is that sarcasm? Because here in the sough we had that white stuff just a few weeks ago. It is all that global warming making this the coldest year on record in a long time!

Sally - Definitely sarcasm. I really really don't like the cold weather. And especially snow in late March!

Isn't this global warming thing frightening!

What world are our kids going to see/experience? I've never been more discouraged in that regard. Ah…big sigh.

I promised that I’d share the results of my online eyeware purchase, so here they are. I’m very pleased. Buying online, I was a little nervous that they would end up looking stupid, but as you can see, I don’t look any more stupid than normal in my new glasses.

They feel great. I can see perfectly. And at this price, I can get a couple more pairs and still pay less than I would have at the cheapest retail eyeware outlet for one pair.

If you need glasses, I can’t recommend this highly enough. Go to the Glassy Eyes blog and let Ira lead the way.

Kristen - that's stinkin' hilarious. thanks for being the guinea pig.

i wanna find some horn-rimmed ones…

Fred - Looks good, Matt. The lowest you can get a decent pair at Costco is around $130, so that's a good deal in my book.

Now those are UV coated and everything? If so, I give it the Fred Frugality stamp of approval…

And by the way, Costco has "Batter Blaster" in 3 packs. I thought of you guys when I saw them (on the way to get some frozen pizza).

This is how it came about last weekend:
Francis: “Daddy, do you brush your hair?”
Matt: “No, Francis I guess I don’t.”
Francis: “Daddy, do you get tangles in your hair?”
Matt: “No, Francis, I don’t.”
Francis: “Mommy, I want my hair like Daddy’s.”

I couldn’t do it to her any longer. As cute as it was, it was time to get the hair chopped (about 6″). And surprisingly, none of us have cried about it. I think this little haircut suits her just…perfectly.

Kristen - Her hair cut really is perfect. All girls love a new 'do for spring! get your spring on, girlfriend!

America - I think it is fabulous, really I love short hair on little girls, it accentuates their beautiful little girl faces. I love her reasoning though, so practical. And Kristen I think RJ is due for a trip to a "real" stylist as well.
