Day Out with Thomas: Momma and Sam

This morning, Sam and I headed to Grapevine for A Day Out With Thomas. I didn’t really know what to expect. Aside from being predictably over-priced, it was awesome. Sam was out of his mind happy and kept saying, “Momma, I so happy!” Train tables, a big model train, Thomas legos, a sandbox, tattoos, animal balloons made by a crazy clown, Sir Top’em Hatt, a bounce house, and of course, the actual train ride. Four hours later, I would say it was worth the money and Sam is demanding we go back with Francis and George. ๐Ÿ™‚ What a fun, fun morning. I mostly just enjoyed focusing in on my little man. In just a few days he’ll be three. I can hardly believe how fast time flies.

As we drove up, he asked, “Momma, we see Thomas?” and just then, we spotted him outside the trolley… He was so adorable.

Having the time of his life on the Thomas bounce house. He kept looking around at the other kids with Thomas shirts and hats and saying, “Momma, these are my friends!”

All smiles.

We spent a solid 30 minutes at the train tables. Getting there early was great. We basically had the place to ourselves. When we left you could barely enter the tent…yuck.

Thomas legos. Who knew?

Happiest kid on the block.

“Momma, where’s Whoa-sie (Rosie) and James?”

He insisted on FOUR tattoos. One on each cheek and one on each hand. ๐Ÿ˜‰

A delicious over-priced corndog. “Momma, this is giant dot dog!”

“Green puppy…peas!”

Sandbox! ๐Ÿ™‚

Out cold before we left the parking lot.

The Amazing Fantastico and Mr. Fluffypants

A few years ago, when we were living in Amarillo, we threw a birthday party in our backyard. A few friends from the moms’ group came over and we had a bunch of backyard games and fun. We had filled a tub full of water balloons, and the kids thought it would be fun to throw them at daddy. At the last minute, I decided to put on the old tuxedo coat, blue satin gag shirt, a thrift-store football helmet, and a mardi gras mask.

Yes, we had all of those things just lying around.

I asked Sally to introduce me as “The Amazing Fantastico” and a tradition was born. We now see Fantastico once a year and the kids often try to make me admit that I am him, which I will not do.

This year, just before Easter, our daughter announced that The Amazing Fantastico had a friend who would visit us at Easter time. That was news to me. She even named him: Mr. Fluffypants. She asked me to call Fantastico and see if Mr. Fluffypants would come over so they could throw confetti eggs at him. So I made a call.

There may be a day when my children roll their eyes and say “stop it, dad.” There may be a day when I can’t get George to finally crack a smile. There may even be a day when Sam doesn’t stand up and dance on the table. May that day be far from now, and may I find new and innovative ways to be ridiculous until then.

Sarai - there are no words for how much I love this.

Sarah Wolfe - The kids and I all watched this and got a good laugh out of it. Actually, a couple of them were baffled. Sam was my favorite. He has a future in the dance scene!

Texas Tornado Weather

About a month ago, we had a tornado warning. All of the kids came home from school that day with stories about how they had to “duck and cover” – including little Sam. There’s something so cute and terrifying about him showing me what he learned. Sigh… Texas weather.

This always makes me chuckle. Whenever there’s news of a thunderstorm, or more specifically… hail, this is what you see in Texas.

For all the parents in the da’ house…

Can I get an “AMEN!!”?
When your youngest child goes poo in the potty, well, it is a very, very good day indeed.

And his reward… a much anticipated puppy puzzle and blue lollipop.

This marks the first time in almost 8 years I have not changed a diaper.

Sarah Wolfe - This is a VERY big deal! Congrats! I’m a year out of diapers and it’s amazing to go to Costco and not even think about diapers and wipes. We had THREE in diapers for awhile… but I guess now we are spending way more money on food ๐Ÿ™‚
