Nun Bun Surfaces

The Nashville Tennessean reports that it has received a letter bearing a Seattle, WA, postmark that includes a picture of the purloined pastry. Apparently this is the third such letter since the disappearance of the bun at Christmas 2005, but the first to include a picture of the bun taken in captivity. via: boingboing

Bathroom Fixture

Bathroom Fixture

We’ve discussed the dilemma of baby placement in public bathroom stalls before. It’s certainly true that one occasionally needs use of both hands in the bathroom, and we had criticized the BabyKeeper product, saying that it would be a hassle to fish the thing out of your bag, assemble it, and hook it over the stall door.

Enter: the baby sling. My friend Melanie made this awesome babypouch for me when George was born. Not only is it sylish and perfect for carrying Georgie everywhere, but I found out the other day that it works great in a bathroom stall as well. The sling may not boast a five point harness, but I tell ya, with arm’s reach supervision, it sure did the trick.

Fulmer Fam - Oh so cute, I miss those slingy days!

Unhappy Peanut

This is an unhappy peanut man. Over the past couple of days, Francis and I have been working on him and his friends using styrofoam packing peanuts and a big styrofoam block from our new vaccum cleaner (which rocks by the way). Why is he so unhappy? My guess is that it has to do with Georgie’s 102º – 103.6º fever for the past 3 days. It’s what we officially call “no fun” around here. We went to the doc this morning and his ears are fine and no signs of anything else. So, it’s a waiting game. If fever persists than we have to take him back to the hospital and start getting tests. Let’s hope this thing goes away soon. Babies and fevers make me nervous. As always, i can still work a smile out of him so I’m not too worried.

Peanut world tidbit: I told Francis we were going to make “sculpture.” So, since we started this on Wednesay she’s been saying things like ” I want to do sculpture” and “Don’t let Scouty get my sculpture!” It’s pretty cute to hear her say it. This was a great project. I definitely recommend it…even if you don’t have children. 😉

Happy Birthday Charlie!

Beautiful Cowboy Cake

Today was Charlie Donoghue’s first birthday. For those of you who don’t know, Charlie is our godson. We are happy to report that little Charlie can throw quite a cowboy celebration. Not only did he have the greatest chocolate cowboys and indians cake (designed by his Auntie Sarah), but both Matt and I walked away with over a dozen taquitos in our bellies.

Be sure to click the cake photo to see just how much fun we had. Happy Birthday Charlie, we love you.

The Animals Are Coming

Here is another installment in the Silly Music Project: The Animals Are Coming. All vocals and half-assed percussion are my own. The arrangement is inspired by, or ripped off of, two sources: Marshall Bartholomew’s version of The Animals a-Comin’, and a scene from the movie Glory. If you’ve seen the movie, you’ll understand that it’s odd inspiration for a children’s song. Still, ever since I started singing the Bartholomew version in college, I thought the words fit the cadence of the Glory meditation particularly well.

Of the many scenes from the movie that have stuck with me through the last fifteen years, this one most affects me. The men of the all-black 54th Regiment of the Union army are preparing to lead an extraordinarily dangerous raid on the Confederate Fort Wagner. As the men sing together in prayer, they blend faith and fear and love in a way that makes me embarrassed to present my little imitation here. If you have not seen the movie, go rent Glory tonight.

Pat - Matty,

Nice work on Sunshine… Especially the last verse.

Animals was good, couldn't quite get over the Glory rip off though.

Keep em coming.

Matt - Yeah, that 's exactly my problem with it. Maybe Francis and George can enjoy it until they see that movie.

Kristen - we like 'em! I'd love to see Francis' reaction to the songs. I miss Gulde videos.
