Labor Day Fun

Petillo Visit

Tom, Katherine and Lola came to visit over Labor Day and I’m just now getting all of the photos uploaded. I have had so little time to sit down at my computer since George arrived. It seems mattandsally.com has taken a back seat for awhile, but not to worry. We’re back! It was so good to see Kat, Tom and Lola over the long weekend. I’m ready for them to come back. Although I think we’re long overdue a trip down to Nashville.

Stratocaster?

Sally took this picture last week at the zoo, where Francis enjoys painting her face. As you can see, she painted the majority of her forehead purple, but upon further review, it appears that she may have been drawing a Fender Stratocaster guitar. You have to admit, the resemblance is striking.

Francis does enjoy playing the guitar. She will strum while I finger the chords. I hadn’t realized she was so devoted, though.

Anonymous - After this week's Irish win, I fully expected to see some comments from Matt! He must still be too excited.

Is this a joke?

A week after the city of Madrid banned ultra-skinny models from their fashion week, I run across this. On certain digital cameras, Hewlett Packard allows you to trim unwanted pounds from your photo subjects. So if you’re a few pounds over your ideal weight, there need be no photographic record of it.

From the website:

They say cameras add ten pounds, but HP digital cameras can help reverse that effect. The slimming feature, available on select HP digital camera models, is a subtle effect that can instantly trim off pounds from the subjects in your photos!

If there were some way to apply this technology to the ND – Michigan game, to make it appear closer than it was…

Donoghue Nation - That would take more than a fancy camera, my friend.

donr - Matt, my good friend, while I don't revel in your sorrow over Saturday's outcome, for me it was the sweetest Michigan experience in a very long time. My team, so often a source of deep disappointment, finally figured out how to put a team away. I hope the lesson stuck.

As for the camera, what a well-timed and superbly designed device for these United States. I suggest pointing it at Charlie Weis. I love the man dearly, and clearly the Pats miss his offensive genius, but he has gotten bigger than ever in Indiana.

"George Goes Here."

Sorry about the scarcity of content lately. These kids are sick and running us ragged; we’ve had visitors; it’s football season; more excuses . . .

Francis said something sweet yesterday that made us smile, though. We were looking at double strollers at Babies R Us yesterday, and we’d strap Francis into one side to get the heft of the stroller as we pushed it down the aisle. More than once, Francis patted the other seat and said “George goes here.”

I hope she feels that way her whole life.

Cowgirl Francis

This set of photos is for one of our favorite people, Uncle Hunky. He’s a real cowboy in Clarendon, Texas. Francis and I talk about Texas, Oklahoma and cowgirls a lot these days. My mom brought her a cowgirl outfit when she came to help with George and it’s been a huge hit. She loves it and actually keeps the hat on her head… the only hat, in fact, that she doesn’t pull off immediately. It’s hard to believe that Matt and I are raising our children in “big city” Chicago. I feel a little ashamed about that. 🙂 But after seeing her in this ensemble I’m confident that she’s got red dirt pumping in her veins. In no time she’ll be dreaming of ponies and talking about her Texas rodeo cowboy uncles, Hunk and Johnny and about her great great grandma Alice who was in the Land Rush of Oklahoma.
