George at 4 weeks

I can hardly believe it, but it has been 4 weeks since our little man was born. So far so good. He is eating like a champ and sleeping pretty well (waking up about 2 times at night). I’ve been a little more relaxed about my “Babywise” sleeping regime this time, but decided this weekend it was time to bring the hammer down. ๐Ÿ˜‰ So, onto the sleep schedule he goes! I know, I know… this is controversial, but hey… who can complain about Francis’s sleeping habits. She’s a rockstar so I’ve got to try again with little G. The only complaint I have about little G is that he’s a cranky pants when I put him down in the evening. He’ll cry off and on for an hour or so and I’m not such a fan of that. So our little pink giraffe (hat compliments of big sister Francis) has entered Sleep Boot Camp. Get ready; the party is over, little man.

Where’s Daddy?

Matt is a groomsman for his buddy Jim Carter this weekend in Virginia. Forseeing that this would feel a bit overwhelming (being alone for 3 days with a 2 year old and a 4 week old) I invited my dear friend Katherine to come up. However, her sweet little Lola got a nasty ear infection and she was instructed by her doctor to stay home. What do you do?
Fortunately, it hasn’t been too bad. Francis is a sweetie. She’s been pretty easy aside from her constant need to be sitting beside me or literally on me. It seems that anytime I need to feed George that’s her cue to see if she can sit in my lap too. My solution: breastfeed while standing up. You do what you gotta do.
This set of photos is of our day. We had about 4 different tea parties (with Scout, of course) and watched “Baby Songs” more than I’d care to recall. One more day… wish me luck.

Sweet Little Painter

Francis is killing me with cuteness these days. She is saying some of the funniest things and just being all around adorable. Here are some photos of her painting yesterday. She’s still a little young to be painting. Our painting “sessions” last at most 15 minutes – 10 of which are her painting her hands. Not to mention the 15 I spend cleaning her up afterwards. I can’t help it though I love her paintings and she’s always so proud of herself. Whenever she finishes making something she’ll hop around and point at her artwork and say “I made it!”

Kristen - the photos are precious. i can already tell you are going to be up to your eyeballs in original francis artwork. You can send some my way if you run out of space. You can trust I'll take good care of it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Fulmer Fam - Oh no age is too young for art ๐Ÿ™‚ Thomas just did his first finger painting two days ago and he is not even one yet, but coming up fast! He loved it and I found these cool brushes that the paint is inside of for him and he definitely had a preference for the brushes over his hands. Her eyes remind me of Thomas in some of the photos.

Remember when Francis was stuck on that table?

We were sitting around here laughing about the time Francis got stuck on top of her little play table. She had just learned how to stand up, and she got stranded atop this 12-inch tall table in her play room. If you watch to the end of this video, you’ll appreciate her choice of dismount.

"Planes . . . too loud"

Air Show and Zoo

The air portion of the Chicago Air and Water Show started at 11:00 on Sunday. We went to early mass, ate our pancakes, and were looking for parking downtown by 10:50. All five of us (my mom’s visiting).

We had been talking about the “Airplane Show” with Francis for days, and she was really looking forward to it. Francis is fascinated with planes and birds. She’s always pointing them out, even when there are other obvious distractions. A firetruck could go screaming by, and Francis would be pointing to the sky, saying “plane! plane!” She picks out airliners that are tiny specks in the sky – invisible if you’re not scanning the clouds with purpose.

When the time came, we joined a couple hundred thousand people on the lakeshore and watched the sky. By the way, if you’re late, the Children’s Hospital is a great place to park – ten dollars, but it’s pretty close. The first couple groups of planes were propeller-driven aircraft. Francis watched happily as they looped and dove over the lake. She pointed at the helicopter that simulated a lake rescue in front of us.

Then the jets arrived. The roar that I’ve been hearing from my office all week was much louder up close. Francis grabbed my hands and put them over her ears. When the F-16s passed, she said “Planes . . . too loud. I want boats.” I wanted boats, too. It really was deafening. Feeling like bad parents, we hustled Francis and three-week old George off to the zoo.

As it turned out, the Lincoln Park Zoo is the perfect place to enjoy the airshow. And they have otters. We enjoyed a quieter lunch at the zoo cafe – on an outdoor deck, so we could still see the planes. We spent some time with the otters and the beavers before heading home for naps. As you can see in the pictures, Francis didn’t make it to the car before conking out. We’re monitoring George’s hearing. Seems normal.
